The last weekend, the temple Lerab Ling hosted its first major conference. Nearly 1000 people attended the 3rd Forum "Buddhism and Medicine."

The event, during these two days, was attended by Buddhist teachers, scientists and leading experts who apply meditation in the context of medicine and therapy for a presentation and discussion of the benefits Therapeutic Meditation.

Among the speakers there were Sogyal Rinpoche and Jetsün Khandro Rinpoche , Jon Kabat-Zinn - the founder of the stress reduction program based on mindfulness (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, MBSR) - and Clifford Saron , the principal investigator of the project Shamatha (Shamatha Project), the 'The most comprehensive study to date of how long-term practice of meditation.

The first day of the conference was devoted to the latest scientific research on meditation. The project Shamatha, for example, examined two groups of 30 practitioners meditation retreats for three months in the United States. The majority of results are being evaluated, but initial findings suggest a range of effects , including sustained attention, more RAM, a greater well-being and improved ability to respond with empathy to suffering of others.

The second day focused on different uses of meditation in hospitals and in other contexts of clinical medicine and therapy, through programs such as MBSR and MBCT, cognitive therapy based on mindfulness (Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy), the spiritual guidance and the Rigpa Tonglen Association, founded in France by Dr. Cathy White.
